CoHOPeration 2015

CoHOPerationWhat’s it called when you get Pelican Brewing Co.’s Darron Welch and Red Rock Brewing Co.’s Kevin Templin working together on a new beer idea? CoHOPeration.

CoHOPeration is a hop-forward (dare we say IPA like) Lager, with a clean and crisp flavor profile that comes from a lengthy lager fermentation and cold-conditioning process.

Floral and spicy flavors from Sterling and Saaz hops are matched with a rye spiciness that adds depth and complexity to the flavor. It’s a unique hybridization of traditional beer styles that when combined, creates something unique and delicious.

Best of all, this beer represents a “core value” of the Craft Beer movement: working together, sharing knowledge, and having fun making great beer!

CoHOPeration will be available at all Red Rock Brewpubs and the Red Rock Beer Store beginning Thursday June 4th.

Red Rock Beer Now Available at Harmons Stores

Harmons City Creek

Red Rock Brewing Co. is now distributing two of its most popular Session Beers exclusively at Harmons grocery stores, located at Brickyard Plaza and City Creek in Salt Lake City, UT.

Red Rock’s new “Black Label” session-series includes an Amber Ale and Session IPA.  Both are available in a 500 mL bottles that can be purchased individually or in 4-packs (4%ABV).

“Harmons is a wonderful partner”, says Bob Jensen, owner of Red Rock Brewery.  “We share many of the same values as a company.  Harmons is driven by quality, not price. They have a strong commitment to our community and are very supportive of locally owned businesses and products.”

Red Rock’s Amber Ale is one of the bestselling beers at the brewpubs.  It has the hop profile of a Northwest Pale Ale with an added malty character that gives it a hint of sweet caramel.

Red Rock’s Session IPA is an American version of the popular India Pale Ale, brewed with domestic hops from the Pacific Northwest. It smells of pine and grapefruit and has an aggressive hop-forward taste.

A four-pack of Red Rocks’ large German bottles are a close equivalent to a standard six-pack of 12 oz. bottles.

Available at the following locations:

Harmons Brickyard Plaza
3270 South 1300 East
Salt Lake City, UT

Harmons City Creek
135 East 100 South

Utah Brewers Represent the Best in Craft Beer

Great American Beer Festival 2014Utah Brewers Represent the Best in Craft Beer at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival

The 2014 Great American Beer Festival is a wrap and four Utah breweries are bringing home some new hardware for their trophy case.

Utah Brewers Cooperative won a Gold Medal for Squatters Hell’s Keep in the Belgian Style Strong Specialty Ale category; Uinta Brewing won a Silver Medal for Cutthroat in the Ordinary or Special Bitter Category; Wasatch Brewery won a Bronze Medal for their Apricot Hefeweizen in the Fruit Wheat Beer category; Moab Brewery won a Bronze Medal for Rocket Bike Lager in the American Style Amber Lager Category; and Red Rock Brewing Co.’s very own Paardebloem was awarded the Silver Medal in the Experimental Beer category.

Red Rock’s Paardebloem has now won seven competitive medals, including the Gold Award at the World Beer Cup in 2014.

The Great American Beer Festival hand-picked 222 beer experts from 10 countries to evaluate 5,507 entries from around the world.  The judges sit together in small groups and, without knowing the brand name, taste beers in each specified style category. The ultimate goal of the Great American Beer Festival Judge Panel is to identify the three beers that best represent each beer-style category as described and adopted by the Great American Beer Festival.

A list of all 2014 Great American Beer Festival winners can be found here: GABF Winners

Red Rock Brewing Co. brought home Utah’s only Gold Award from the largest commercial beer competition to date at the 2014 World Beer Cup® awards held April 11, in Denver, Colorado.

The gold was awarded to Red Rock Brewing Co. in the Experimental Beer category for its Paardebloem, Belgian style ale inspired by a hops supplier dispute.

Paardebloem is brewed using dandelion greens as a bitter in place of hops.  Other notable ingredients include toasted Pilsner malt, grains of paradise, and peaches.  Paardebloem, Flemish term for dandelion, is hazy gold in color and has a light effervescent mouth-feel.

“Brewers from around the globe participate in the World Beer Cup to win recognition for their creativity and brewing skills,” said Charlie Papazian, president of the Brewers Association. “For a brewer, a World Beer Cup gold award allows them to say that their winning beer represents the best of that beer style in the world.” There were 4,754 beers entered from 1,403 breweries representing 58 countries at this year’s event.

Great American Beer Festival 2012

We at Red Rock are very proud to announce our 2012 bronze, silver and gold medal wins at the Great American Beer Festival.

Our Nut Brown Ale did it again, taking bronze in the American-Style Brown Ale category, just a month after our release of the Bobcat Nutbrown Ale, a high point bottled version of our award winning nutbrown. This American brown ale is brewed with Cascade and Columbus hops, giving it a distinctive aroma and flavor.  Chocolate and Crystal malts lend a soft but pronounced body to this world class ale.  You can find the Bobcat at Red Rock’s three brewpub locations and across Utah starting in November.

The Red Rock Organic Zwickelbier took silver in the Kellerbier/Zwickelbier category.  A rather old, rare and unique German beer style, Kellerbiers are unfiltered and unpasteurized lagers that date back to at least the Middle Ages.  The beer is lagered.  The final product is a smooth, naturally cloudy beer that’s rich in vitamins (from the yeast).  It is made with organic malt from Wyermann Malting Company, and organic, whole-leaf Hallertau hops, resulting in a hop bitterness that compliments the soft malt character.

The delicious spring seasonal Paardebloem blew away the competition taking gold in experimental beers.  Created in conjunction with Chris McCombs and New Belgium Brewing Company, Paardebloem is made with hand-toasted Pilsner malt, grains of paradise, and fresh picked dandelion greens.  Paardebloem (Flemish for dandelion) has a hazy, deep golden color, a soft-toasted malt character and is 100% bottle conditioned. The grain bill was designed to produce a malty, light bodied beer, emphasizing the flavors of the spices and esters of the Belgian yeast strain.  Look for the Paardebloem with the next spring dandelion harvest where beers are sold near you.

Red Rock Brewing Pouring at Utah Beer Festival August 26th 2012

We’re terribly excited to yet again be a part of the Utah Beer Festival! This year it is being held on Sunday, August 26th at Gallivan Center. Last year was a big hit and we loved meeting all of you Utah beer connoisseurs.

The Utah Beer Festival is a way for Utah breweries to show our pride for our home state by bringing out our best micro-brewed beers. The world may not think that Utah has good beer, but we all know the truth (hint: they’re wrong)!

We will be coming ready to show off our favorite homemade beers if you come thirsty and ready to drink in the park.

Last year we brought the Elephino Double IPA, Le Quatre Saison, Honey Wheat, and Amber Ale. You’ll have to come this year to see what we’re bringing, but we promise not to disappoint!

Red Rock Brewing Invited to Oregon Brew Fest

The Oregon Brew Fest is coming up this month, from July 26th – 29th! The Oregon Brewers Festival is a four-day craft beer festival in downtown Portland, Oregon, since 1988. Each brewery that is invited brings one beer.

Entrance is free, and event-goers can sample the lovely selection of craft beers by buying a souvenier cup and tokens.

A $1 token is good for one sample, and four tokens are good for a full pour. What a great deal! If you’re in Portland at the end of July, make sure to come check us out! We’re bringing one of our crowd favorites, the Elephino Double IPA.

Micro-brewed beer is a big deal in Oregon, and we are proud to be asked to attend. Red Rock, along with Uinta Brewing, Epic Brewing, and Wasatch Beers, will be representing the great state of Utah! So Red Rock fans, come support us out in Portland!

Red Rock Wins Six Medals at Mountain Brewers’ Beer Fest

The 18th annual Mountain Brewers’ Beer Fest was this weekend in Idaho Falls, ID. With over 140 breweries sending over 1200 entries, competition was fierce. We were very happy to represent the state of Utah and even happier to bring home four gold medals and two silver medals, for a total of six award-winning Red Rock beers!

Here’s the breakdown of which beers won:

  • Gold: Red Rock Paardebloem, our dandelion flavored Belgian-style ale, produced out of a collaboration with New Belgium Brewing Company, won the Biere de Garde category.
  • Gold: Red Rock Rauch Bier, our take on the smoke-flavored lager, won the German-style Rauch Bier category.
  • Gold: Red Rock Secale, our doppelbock that was lagered in High West Rye Whiskey barrels for six months, won the Barrel-Aged Strong Beer category.
  • Gold: Red Rock Munich Dunkel, our malty dark lager, won the Munich-Style Dark category.
  • Silver: Red Rock Blonde Ale, one of our lightest and crispiest brews, took second in the Golden or Blonde Ale category.
  • Silver: Red Rock Nut Brown, our take on the English-style brew with an American twist, took second in the American-Style Brown Ale category.

Congratulations to our wonderful and hard-working brewers! You guys made us all proud, and represented Utah to the rest of the West in the craft beer industry. Keep doing what you love, because you are obviously great at it! Cheers!

Come try the fruits of their labors at either of our three locations (check location website pages to check which beers are on tap here). Don’t forget to ask your server what food to pair your beer with!

World Beer Cup

The 2012 World Beer Cup or “The Olympics of Beer Competitions” is just around the corner! Judging is May 1-2 in San Diego, California, for 95 different categories. 828 breweries from all over the world are participating with 56 different countries represented.

The World Beer Cup started in 1996 to showcase the great diversity and quality of breweries from around the world, and continues to recognize the innovations of great breweries and the vastly different regional and cultural traditions present in modern day brewing.

We are very excited to be a part of such a prestigious competition. Not only that, but Red Rock Brewery’s head brewer, Kevin Templin, has been asked to be a judge captain for the 2012 competition, a great honor!

We are also sending some beers for competition, and we would like you to vote on which ones to send! Head over to our Facebook page to voice your opinion!
