Red Rock Brewery Secale 2014

 Rock Brewing Secale 2014

Red Rock Brewing Co. is pleased to announce the release of one of our most anticipated seasonal craft beers – Secale 2014.

Now in its fourth release, Red Rock Brewery’s Secale may be the best iteration yet of this German style Doppelbock.

Secale (Se-cal-le) is Latin for rye. Red Rock not only brews this beer using this tasty grain, but it finishes the beer by aging it in rye-whiskey barrels from Utah’s very own High West Distillers.

The aroma and taste are malt forward with hints of rye spiciness, vanilla, oak and whiskey. Word on the street is that this year’s batch has the best “balance” yet. The alcohol content is 8.5% by volume.

Doppelbocks (double bocks) are a stronger version of the traditional bock that was first brewed in Munich by the Paulaner monks. This strong beer or “liquid bread” served as nourishment during periods of culinary abstinence required by the strict rules of their order. They believed it cleansed the body and the soul.

The beer became so popular that the Paulaners feared it may be too much of an indulgence for lent, so they shipped a batch to the Holy Father in Rome to clear their conscience. By the time it arrived, the beer had spoiled and the Holy Father found it to be disgusting. He declared that the Munich monks were then free to make and drink as much as they pleased.

Imperial Red Ale

Now Available at Red Rock Brewpubs – Limited Release.

Red Rock’s Imperial Red Ale is a special commemorative brew to celebrate our 20-year Anniversary. It has the toasted malt backbone that you would expect from our Amber Ale, but it’s much more complex. It has a huge hop profile. It’s an indelicate balance of malty goodness and eager hop bitterness. This is a full-bodied ale for people who have an insatiable love of craft beer.
9.5% ABV. Pairs well with marinara based dishes, meats, and intense cheeses. Enjoy!

Here’s a review from the Utah Beer Blog:

Imperial Red Ale – For their 20th Anniversary RedRock came up with a brilliant tasting take on “irish-ish” styles. Big ruby tones with a sturdy ruddy head. the nose pops with toasted caramel & pine. The tastes starts with toasted bread, tobacco and a hint of fudge. Big pine resin comes next with bitter chocolate and a hint of orange in the end. The finish is dry and bitter. This is a full flavored beer that crosses into barley-wine territory. While it’s 9.5% ABV is well hidden – it will put the hammer on you if your not paying attention.
